Buy-ology: truth and lies about why we buy

When you smile, people tend to remember your name. Did you know that? As a small business owner, this fact could easily boost your sales!

I don't often think that a business book is compelling and interesting enough to post about. But, this one keeps surprising me. I'm about halfway through, and have aready come up with a bunch of interesting information.

This book is all about the role of psychology in advertising, branding and why people buy. And it's not all based on guesses or thoughts — the author ran experiments and actual CAT-scans to see how peoples' brains really work.

It's full of interesting tidbits like: "... we're not only attracted to people who smile but we also tend to remember their names... 'We are sensitive to positive social signals... we want to remember people who were kind to us, in case we interact with them in the future'"(p. 61). This is regulated in the brain by mirror neurons, which are neurons that fire when an action is being performed and when that same action is being observed.

Expanding on this, if you smile in your business headshot, it may make you more memorable. Interesting, huh?

This book also talks about product placement, subliminal messaging, rituals, faith, sellin
g to the senses, and more. I'm looking forward to the rest of the insight!"

My Stand Out! eBook has been updated for 2008

Standoutsmall

I've re-done the entire quetionnaire section and added, in all, 15 pages of information!

I haven't had a chance to update the pricing, yet, so until I get around to that it's still available for the old price of $47. Or, you can purchase it along with the "Define Your Difference" Branding Workbook, which covers how you can create your entire Brand Definition: Who You Are, What You Do, What Makes You Different, and Who's Your Best Client, for $57.

Here's the details:

Are you frustrated when you stand up at a networking event and say "I'm a (well, whatever you are)" and the people that you're talking to say "Oh, I know what you do!" and the conversation stops? Or, the conversation takes the wrong turn because the person you're talking to really has no idea, or, worse yet, the wrong idea? What can you do about that?

When you submit a proposal to a client, do you get resistance? Do you ever wonder why?

The answers are all in our eBook, Stand Out! Differentiate Your Business to Build a Solid Foundation for Your Brand.

In business today, if you don't stand out from the competition, you won't be able to attract the attention you deserve from potential prospects. You might as well kiss a good portion of your business good-bye. You also need to stand out to convince prospects to buy your services or your products over their other choices in the marketplace.

Making your business stand out is also called differentiation—the practice of calling attention to and building your business upon a foundation of the factors that truly make your business different.

Once you're able to differentiate your business, you'll be able to create a clear brand and a set of written messages that automatically attract clients to your business.

When your business's branding and marketing efforts, services, promotions, and actions are backed by your differentiators, your business will really shine. Your prospects will be impressed by the cohesiveness and focused nature of your brand identity, messaging, and marketing materials that comes from having a clear understanding of who you are, what you do, and what makes you different. Your focused presentation and marketing will lead to an increase in sales.

This 61-page eBook will walk you through:

  • The Basics of Differentiation
  • Differentiation Done Right
  • Defining Your Difference (includes a workbook section that you can apply to your own business)
  • Using Your Differentiation

The eBook will be delivered to you via email, in PDF format.
