Awesome Sign From Maker Faire

I know that Maker Faire was a couple of months ago, but I just downloaded my photos. I lag.

Childrens' Zoo Residents

Finally, here's our last stop at the zoo - we made it through just in time to see these guys before they went home for the night.

First, the pudgy prairie dogs:

Then, there was the goats. This one was standing very still, watching everything:

And this one was chillin' in the shade:

Then, the pigs were snacking together, and wagging their pig-tails. Note the "motion blur":

Baby tigers!

The baby tigers at the SF Zoo were out, frisking in full force. They were really hard to get a good photo of (their glass was smeary) but here's a few of the most cooperative tiger.

First, he savaged a bucket that was completely misbehaving. Can't you just see it, being the worst bucket on the planet? Thankfully he was there to save the day.

Then, there was this ill-mannered piece of cardboard that needed some "showing who's boss". He rolled around with it and bit it for a while.

After that, he sprang away to go chase his siblings. Boing!

In Africa...

There are antelopes with awesome mohawks...

And giraffe-tocks:

The same giraffe decided to give silent yodeling lessons to a sleeping duck (who is in the lower corner here). The duck was unimpressed.

Then, there was this baby giraffe in the sand-trap. Just waiting to ambush some golfers.

Capybara

This is the Capybara at the San Francisco zoo. He's usually just sitting around like a fuzzy lump, but when we went last week he was totally on the rampage - wallowing in the mud, then he jumped in the pond and went for a swim, and then scampered off across his field. This is the best pic of him:

The SF Zoo rarely has signs with the animals' names on them - but I think his name should be Maurice. If he's a boy, that is.

And, just look at his 'tock-hawk (the mohawk on his butt!) That must take some serious maintenance to keep it all up like that.

Look, bears!

The bears were also being photogenic last Sunday:

A grizzly, pacing around in the new(ish) Grizzly Gulch exhibit...

The polar bear sticks his tongue!

And then he looks innocent and smiley about the whole thing.

Emperor Tamarins are so cute. Even when they're having a war.

As evidence to the above, I present:

Right side tamarin (we'll call him Gustav): Yes, I see you trying to sneak up on me.

Gustav, distracted: What's that over there? Do you see it too?

Left side tamarin (we'll call her Amelia): Yes, I did see it, but I also see something here in your mustache. Just let me get that for you...

Gustav: Back off! That's totally mine. Did I say you could have that?

Another tamarin, named Chuckles, steps in and says: Childrens. Do I have to separate you? 

Gustav: But, she started it!

Amelia: I sorry. But, can I have that nit from your mustache? Please?

I swear. That's exactly what happened.

Guenther, the dik-dik

Guenther here was one of the few disappointments at the SF Zoo last weekend. 

He's our adopted zoo pet-friend for last year (you give the zoo a donation, you get a photo and a little story about your chosen animal - we've adopted the ladybugs, capybaras and now the Guenther's dik-dik. Next year I think we're going for the Emperor Tamarins).

But, every time we go to the zoo, he hides out in the back of his little bird-filled jungle. Here's the best pic I could get of him:

Perhaps Sir Guenther is just completely fed up with their bird-shaped antics and frolicking.

Otters!

Next, the river otters:

We went to the zoo!

I had a bad (frustrating) day of sewing yesterday, and then nightmares last night, so I asked Ray if we could have a nice day today. And he said, "Let's go to the zoo!"

We're members of the San Francisco Zoo. So we packed up the suncreen, walked Stan (who was tired from playing with his puppy friends all last night anyhow) and headed up.

It was a pretty good day at the zoo, and I had my camera...
